Bristol harbourside tri - 05.06.16

Open water Olympic distance (sprint also available I think). Tomorrow. I'm in wave 4 off at 11.30am. Have friends from work and Tenby/Cardiff there, too.

1500m in Bristol dock (yum, diesely)
40k closed road up and down the portway dual carriageway (should be fast!)
10k path run finishing on the dockside

I've done the sprint before and it was very good. Anything under 2:20 would be nice but I won't get close to the Cardiff tri time from last year as this should be closer to the stated distances.

2:18 and change. 14th overall, 4th in AG (big categories - vets was 34-49). Felt like I raced well, swam a bit poorly but that's as much because I've not worn my wetsuit since Tenby and really felt it early on. Lovely weather, having some nice food in Bristol in the sunshine.

Well done! Better than you thought you'd do?

Good weather conditions.

yeah, a little bit. i thought that 2:20 would be a decent target given my training level and was under that so very happy. when i made that target i didn't know the vagaries of the course - long run to get to t1, slightly long bike (40.5km - not that my garmin would know that, ffs), slightly long run (10.5km ish). all this adds to the sense that i did pretty well - which the placing backs up too

willy - they've been running it a few years now, although this year i think i heard they'd reduced the numbers and had a tougher negotiation with the city. i hope it keeps going because it is a very good event, and the closed road bike is terrific.

i'd certainly go back and do the oly again.
