Willy Waving

Postby willy_1977 » 06 Sep 2011 16:24

You may have read that my "assault" on tri didn't carry over from last year to this and this years planned assault at Middle Distance became a wet fart...with follow through.

May was supposed to be my introduction to Middle Distance with the Marshman and I was looking forward to it... wheels fell right off around feb/march time when I just couldn't seem to shake virus after virus...and then I gave up... it's hard to admit this but looking back it's what happened.

It ended recently with me realising how much I wanted to be out with everyone at the Vitruvian but me also realising that I wouldn't have made the swim cut off :(

So... that was then, now it's time for the good news...

The Marshman was defferred to next year (2012)... meaning I have a race entry in the bag for 2012 and it's middle distance; and this time it's even more personal. I'm fed up of giving up: it's going to be done and done for me.

I need to build time on my feet about now so my goals are all related to time: I want to concentrate on the bike (mainly as I wish to reduce my weight in a controlled and injury free way) so my main goal for the foreseeable futre is to get back to being able to cycle "comfortably" for an hour at 17-20mph. The goals I have in mind for the other disciplines are to be able to complete 5k run in 40min or less. On the swimming front I want to get back to being comfortable in the water.

w/c 5th September 2011
Planned Training:-
Tuesday - 30min run
Thursday - Cycle to work and back
Friday or Saturday - base swim set (tbc).
Sunday - 1hr bike 30min run brick

This weeks goal - is to complete all four planned sessions.

This weeks metrics:
    Weight: 17st 6lb
    Body Fat (%):40.5
Hydration (%) at time of Recording:43.4
Venimus, vidimus, bibimus.
1st 4lbs so far...

Good stuff Lee. :)

If we're lucky enough to get any dryish weekend days over the next few months, I'd be up for getting out on the bike with you. Alternatively, could do some turbo sessions somewhere, to make it a bit more social. Could probably get 2-3, maybe even 4 bikes + turbos set up in our conservatory.

Thanks Ian - sounds good to me, we'll have to get something sorted maybe will would be interested in a threesome :o got a 1 in 7 set that's nasty but in a nice way and not too long either :)

So I'm planning on a swim set this week as:-

200m easy own choice (200)
4 x 50m drill / swim 25m/25m 20 RI(400)
4x100m technique off 3:30 (800)
2x200m steady technique 1min RI (1200m)
4x25m technique Off 1:30s (1300m)

Venimus, vidimus, bibimus.

1-7 is pain of the massive extreme's. If you don't get off and want to either be sick or pass out then you've done it correctly! Go for it, nail it!! :D

don't put them off... it's a thing of beauty is 1 in 7 I'm glad I went with Jase for those months and wish I could afford it again but... hey ho.. ... but I agree, I did it in front of the tv once and Mrs W said she thought I was going to fall off the bike in a puddle of sweat and vomit... lovely vision I know :|

I nearly blacked out when I got off the bike after doing the 1-7....... I quite like doing it out on the road as well. I have a perfect route that fits in just nicely. Although the turbo is about to get dusted down.....

Time to give an update I think:-

Monday - rested succesfully
Tuesday - got out for Run (30mins completed with 2.74miles covered so maybe aiming for 35mins 5k would be better? tbc)
Wednesday - was at a customer site so no training as planned
Thursday - Have cycled to work and therefore am duty bound to cycle back - todays 12.6 mile cycle in was completed in approx 59mins and averaged something like 13.6 mph and 70-71rpm on the cadence (these figures were taken off my garmin and have been rouned etc. so may not work out mathematically but should be close). I wanted to put some effort in on the lumps on my ride so that my speed stayed ~ constant it did so v. happy with that I used to grind to halt on the lumps (ok I'm still not fast but that is not my point).

I love the data: so need to find that garmin USB ant stick thingy and start remembering to put on the HR strap but to be fair I'll be capturing data just for interest and going on feel for the foreseeable future - especially with the results I've got so far (early days as it is) I wonder if perhaps training to all the metrics before was limiting my effort - I appreciate to some extent that is what training in HR zone 2 is about but I think by default I'll be taking it easier on the way back tonight :) so far so good 2 out of 2... watch out willy's about and "I pity the pool..."
