Lincolnshire Edge Standard Triathlon 2015

Postby King Sad » 15 Jul 2015 12:07

Where: Cadney Reservoir near Brigg Lincolnshire ... where dragons be
When: 12 July 2015
Organiser: FFwd sports with excellent support from Lincsquad Tri club
Course details: Wet water, undulating bike, some grass, mainly flat tarmac run
Distance(s): 1500m swim, 40km bike, 10km run
Marshalling: Plenty, friendly at all critical junctions
Facilities: Burger van, toilets, bracing fresh air
Technical: Chip timing, free photography
Freebies: Technical T shirt, Lucozade, chewy bars, Zone 3 key ring

Found out about this purely by chance, fitted in nicely with the calendar so entered. Got the start list ... Eek 79 ... Nowhere to hide  ... Only 3 in my AG ... A podium if I finish.

Rocked up, registered .. at the burger van ... Racked, transition was up a ramped slope to the side of the reservoir.

Bit windy, buoys were being blown about even with 50kg weights.

SWIM
2 lap swim. Into the water, count down and off. Right from the start some damn awful sighting, I’m blind as a bat yet I could see this yellow blob and this gaggle just peeled off to the left, couple minutes later they veered back again and all these bodies started swimming over me. Anyway, splash, splash, splash ... Out of the water ...

27:51 ... Must have been short ... 46 out 67 finishers ... Happy with that

T1
Up the side of the reservoir, had a sit down to get wetsuit off, slight dizziness but man up and away.
2:58

BIKE
Trot down the ramped slope about 100m to the mount point and off.
Two laps, described as ‘fast and flat’ ... 200m of climbing ... No.
First 5.5 km to join the loop; into headwind, undulating, 30m climb, av 31.2 kph max 52.9kph.
Onto the loop; 13km. Uppy downy, 30.4kph av, 51.5kph max. HR 120ish +-5
Next 13km; 30.1kph av, 51.1kph max
Last 6km, 29.0 kph av, 45.7 kph max

Image

No real dramas, overtook about 10 ish or so got overtaken by 3.

1.18.53 - Strava 1.17.31 30.2kph av

T2
Trot up the hill to transition
Racked bike, run shoes on and out
0.34 I think that the 1:22 difference between Strava and the bike result should be tacked on to the T2 time; anyway, decent enough, onwards.

RUN
First couple of Km along a grass path around the edge of the reservoir then back down to the road, past a feed station at the start of an up and down 2 laps.

Image

Planned on a negative split as I always go off too quickly; plan working well, hit the turn around point and then at 6km ouch ouch ouch, hop hop hop :o  Shooting pain along the outside of my right calf :( Stopped, rubbed, stretched; bum. Hobbled on, stopped, rubbed, stretched. Did this to the feed station at the start of the run loop. More rubby, stretchy stuff and started off on a shuffly run. Managed to speed up a bit and eventually crossed the finish line. Woohoo :D

58.54 a bit rubbish ... Mmm. Never mind, a finish and not a DNF.

Total
2.49.08 3rd in AG ... Only 3 of us in the AG
1st in AG 2.14.50
2nd in AG 2.29.52

50 out of 67 finishers

There were lots of prizes, so quite a jolly event.

Apart from the hurty leg I enjoyed it and nice to see a small but good event being so well supported by the Lincsquad members. Fired up my interest in Standard distance and may very well do it again next year.
It seemed like a good idea at the time :? .

Another podium !!! Get off this forum

Looks like you had a couple of speedy OAP's in your group this time round, I wonder where they have been hiding for the Midlands Sprint Series.

There was also a very quick 60 yo who I think was in the top 10!
Had a feeling that a small event would attract the more experienced types, having said that there were also some novices. Podium place by default really :( as only 3 in the AG. I did enjoy it though ... except for the hurty bit. :D

Great race and excellent In depth report as always. A podium is a podium is a podium, as they say, if you ain't in it, you can't win it.
Yes there was a fast 60 yr old, these retired people with nothing better to do than train, unlike us working types

Always nice to race new events, this is the second new event this year for me, as you say, nowhere to hide, and you get a good cross section of racers, from sub 2hrs to 3hrs 30.

Great result well done, and hope the cramp didn't cause any serious damage.

hope the leg is coming along well and you're feeling better. Podium finish is always a good thing, even if you're the only 3 in the race!
