Front derailleur spring tension

Changing the group set on my roadie tonight and all is going well, apart from one thing: the gear shifting on the front derailleur requires the strength of Incredible Hulk!

I don't think the spring tension on the front derailleur can be adjusted, any tips or tricks to make it a bit smoother?

Yes. Why bother with all the hassle and stress of trying to set gears up when you could've just bought a new bike?

Is the issue at the shifter or the derailleur?

I *think* it's the tension on the derailleur spring, but will check once again tomorrow by loosening the cable. Will report back.

Did you recalble it? And use new sleeves. The sleeves may not be lubed. Could be wrong though

its nothing to do with the spring...its the cable.

so....its an easy fix...if the cable feels too loose after you've dropped the gears back its simply not going back...and my guess would be a barb on one end of the cable sleeve....so it fools you into thinking the cable is too loose...so you tighten it...then its just too tight.

tho a new bike sounds good right?

That may well be the case Andy - I'll pull the cable out and have a closer look at the outers again.
