Rear wheel for turbo - Shimano 10 speed compatible

Postby CCS » 04 Feb 2013 00:16

Anyone got a dodgy old wheel they want to offload suitable for turbo use?
Needs to be compatible with Shimano 10 speed (current turbo wheel only does 9 speed) - or happy to do a swap also?
Currently re-thinking bike situation... turbo bike perhaps relocating to a sunnier climate and may therefore need to use a 'real' bike on the turbo... just exploring options at the moment...

you just need a 1mm spacer on the freehub in order to fit a 10sp cassette to a 9sp wheel.

try this http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/shimano-dura-ace-cs-7800-cassette-spacer-t-=-10-mm-1z8-0700-prod14554/

i managed to pick up a couple of rear wheels off ebay brand new for £38 each (delivered) and by virtue of the above and a spare cassette i now dont even have to change a tyre to swap the bike from indoor to outdoor mode, just a thirty second wheel swap out :-)

Thanks - will investigate! My original wheel was the same sort of thing - very cheap, but new - as I also couldn't be bothered with changing tyres etc. (in fact, I am even lazier, and just kept my old bike, so I don't even need to swap wheels - but the number of bikes I now own seems to be causing a bit of eyebrow raising at home). Thought the guy said it would only do 9 speed - but will try out one of those spacers, as I even have a spare 10 speed cassette (having wimped out onto a 11-28 for use out on the hills).
Cheers!!
