little update - yesterday we were invited to a friends to play and were without a car, so she she cycled (i walked). it was a little over 2mi each way, and she managed it admirably - not even a tiny whine about being tired. she's really enjoying riding her bike and is happy to get out pretty much whatever the weather and temperature.

Good effort over 4 miles :D those fruit shoots must be better than EPO.

Great stuff, similar to next doors little lad, just turned four, but earlier this year he would bike( with stabilisers ), whilst his mum walked to nursery school, 2 miles away,

the only problem he has now is that he too good for his fixed wheel bike, and he is too small for any bike with gears, anybody know of a company that does a bike with gears for a small four year old, something similar to the old Sturmey Archer gears?

Cheers for the link Ben, I will give it to the neighbours, it could be a touch too big , but would be ideal in a years time, thankyou :D

would he use tghe gears? not a problem if he does, and "understands" (a bit much for a 4 year old? who am I to patronise! :-)

But as long as its reasonable flat then i wouldn't get too hung up them.

When I was doing bikeability, most punters were 10 and 11,. Most bikes had 27 gears or so. Most of the kids had never ever used anything but the gear it was in when they started the course.
