me, in the pool

me, in the pool

Postby ris » 13 Mar 2015 12:18

can't think the last time i swam a decent time. my 400m pace has stagnated to about 6:10 and i can't recall ever having broken 6:00.

last night i swam 6:00 dead for 400. if it's not a pb then it's certainly the best 400m time i'm managed in a pool for 3 years. a good start to the spring. :)

and i was leading out, so no draft benefit!

Well done!

Now, the key question: Why? :D

i think it is a little bit of a lot of things (could you call it marginal gains?)

- i've tweaked my hand/finger shape in the pool (closed them up a bit). i may be getting more power that way.
- consistency. last year i had none. the year before i had a lot but was focussed on distance / IM. since december i've swum quite regularly - i've missed one session this year where last year i was missing 1 in 3 coached sets i think. it shows.
- all that time i've spent in the gym using the lat press ;)
- psychology - yesterday i felt more up for attacking a time than i've done for a while. during the 400 i was keeping an eye on the clock and was able to keep the pressure on.

most encouragingly i am consistently hitting sub 1:30 for 100m. if i can get my 200m times regularly under 3:00 then the 400m will follow.

Hmm...

Don't get your hopes up for the half, i'm pacing a friend so likely to run 2h+. The halves from the last couple of Sunday runs have been good, tho.

Entered, paid and waiting for confirmation from north Norfolk 100mi tt.

Looking for some sprints.

IM Wales at the end of the season.

Don't worry. I was really just making a small joke - the irony of really improving in the swim when all you have coming up is running and cycling :D

Time for some Master's competitions for you, young man.

Very well done. I'd be happy with a 7:00 at the moment. :(

But don't worry, I'll get it back.
I had fun once. It was awful.
