Frustrated seat post issue

Postby Bendy Ben » 18 Oct 2013 18:03

I have zero patience

I need a bit more seat post on the TT bike

It's stuck fast - obviously I've undone the seatpost pin but there is absolutely no play at all

His bike was built up for the recent bike show at NEC and is brand new.

I've looked at Sheldon brown and not had much luck - for round seatposts they suggest twisting but I have a teardrop shaped one

Any ideas ?

Grrrrrrr lol
I wanna ride her tomorrow - I only need another inch ( story ofJB's life)

I believe the approved solution is to hacksaw through the frame somewhere near the bottom bracket

 Don't suppose that means it is perfect fit for me :D And I know what you didn't pay for it ;)

Completely remove the bolt/clamp fixings. Most likely reason is these have been over tightened and something is still wedged in place.

Carbon should not stick to carbon (why Bopo's seatpost never stopped slipping). Do not use oil (WD40) on it.

You could try putting some concentrated fairy liquid/shower gel around the top of the post in the hope it works it's way in.

A total hail Mary is to try wrapping a heat pack around the frame to see if you can expand it away from the seatpost (highly unlikely to succeed)

If CCSs hacksaw doesn't work, you could try heating up the outer part gently ( I said GENTLY ), with your hair drier to try and expand the carbon slightly, have you tried going for a ride with the seat post unbolted, your weight may cause it to loosen ( the writer accepts no blame for damage caused to the rider or bike ).

If that fails, then yes, use a hacksaw, no seriously, cut the top off, then cut from the inside out, you will have to replace the post though ( well that works for Alu frames and seized posts ).

The conspiracy theorist about you, might suggest that as the frame was put together it had slippage issues as well , apparently quite a common problem with expensive bikes according to a thread on a forum somewhere), so a mechanic may, I say may, have stuck the post in with some form of adhesive!

I've e mailed the chap at carbon bike solutions who built the bike

Fingers crossed

Might try the fairy liquid trick in the meantime

It looks like it may be the same design as the SC? If that is the case there is a specific technique of undoing and then banging it forward, MTB showed me, post a better pic of it.
