Using my new bike pump!

So, I have a shiny new bike pump, but what I'm wondering is how often everyone checks their tyres and pumps them up (if they need it). I trundle back and forwards to work every day on Olivia, although it's not very far, but I'm just wondering how often I should check the pressure in them. Now I have a hand pump Mr TST says I have to do it myself, so should I do them every week or just if I think they seem a bit flat?

I check mine before each ride, but I don't go out very often. A quick press with your thumb will tell you if its ok - if not, put some air in. :D

Check them before every ride.

Wet road = 90psi

Normal weather = 100psi

Dry roads and fine weather = 110psi

Enjoy

+1 for every ride (as having a flat is a right faff)
Less scientific than Bendy though:
Road bike 100 psi
Race bike 120 psi

This is my trucking around town bike though, not my road bike. It's a 'sit up and beg' type bike and I only do about a mile or so each way on it during the week, then maybe a trip or two round town at the weekends. It has a thing on the tyres to tell me how much to put in, just not sure with a runaround type bike how often to check them. When I go out on my road bike I check them before I go out, but that isn't very often at this time of year!

I would have put a picture up, but it says the board is at it's limit!!

i check them (pinch the tyre) a couple of times a week, and pump them up when they are so flat the rim starts bouncing off the road.

I was complaining to my PT that I wasn't getting any fitter as I was still struggling up the hill* in first gear and being knackered at the top and she couldn't work it out as I'm definitely improving in sessions. Then Mr TST bought me the pump and we realised how flat they were! Next day I stormed up the hill* in third with no problems at all :D Hadn't realised how much different having some air in the tyres would make

*technical note: I am calling it a hill, but those of you who live near proper hills would probably call it flat :P

I find it's always best to feel first in case I need to have a quick pump before I jump on and ride. Don't want anything untoward going down on you if you're out in the countryside
