Not sure the bad rep is fully justified. The main complaints seem to apply to all newer Garmin devices. Heard the ambit series isn't that user friendly in the way the screens are set up, i.e. you need a PC handy to change things. Dcrainmaker review is due soon I believe...

If I go with the Suunto, which is Ant+, will it work with my existing HRM strap etc?

All this recent stuff about new GPS, replacement of 310, upgrades, 320xt whatever has sent off a signal in a underused storage facility in my head...isn't there a new (European?) GPS system due that may well render the old US system obselete & what happens then to all our marvy little (expensive) gadgets? Or am I way off beam here?

Yep, it's called Galileo and it is a work in progress. Most new devices already support it as well as GPS and Glonass. GPS isn't going anywhere though
