Serious question - campag and shimano compatibility

Postby Bendy Ben » 05 Apr 2014 22:21

I'll be as clear as I can.

Road bike is campag

TT bike is shimano

I use a KMC gold chain on my road bike which is both compatible with both shimano and campag

I want to use my road bike when racing with Ewan on clincher deep sections that are shimano. ( I don't want to use my campag tubs as they have a carbon braking surface and don't stop me, my bike, Ewan and the trailer so forget I've got them)

So , as my chain is compatable with both systems is there any reason why I simply can't use my 60mm shimano clinchers from my TT on my campag road bike ?

Or am I totally missing the point ?

Thanks

Shimano cogs are spaced closer together than campag. Shifting will be terrible and skip. May turn your bike into a rubbish 9 speed.

Can you swap the freehub to a campag one then use the proper cassette?

Depending on the wheels some hubs aren't too hard to change (mavic are one), but even so I wouldn't want to be swapping them out every other month.

Don't know. That's a right faff

New wheels new wheels new wheels :D

Might sell my carbon tubs to pay for carbon clinchers with alu braking surface as they are more versatile

And I'm interested to see what will happen if I swap wheels as discussed above so I'm gonna do. It and ride down the road.

Just interested in the mechanics

Ben, You should note that although I know what the bike doctor posted, I have refrained from mentioning it.

Please don't do these things.
