[drumroll]

Ladies & Gentlemen, Girls & Boys - as per my earlier communication, I have the pleasure to annouce…

The 2015 maybe-annual BCTTT Club Championship Challenge

Rules of the game:

1. To qualify, all you need to do is:
- Participate in at least three multisport events in the 2015 season; at least one of them must be an open water triathlon
- Submit your race results, and the winner’s results for your age group (male or female), in a post below. (this needs to include race name, date and your time & fastest time in your age group)
- Wait for me to find time to do the rest.

2. Your score for each event will be estimated as a percentage of the age group winning time to your time, rounded up to the nearest decimal. If your race doesn't run age-group splits, the winning time for your gender can be submitted as reference time.
(example: in my first ever triathlon I did 1:28:52 and the winning male time was 1:04:58 - my score for the event would be 1:04:58 / 1:28:52 = 73.1%)

3. Your overall season score will be the sum of your *three* highest individual event scores.

4. By *multisport* event we understand a triathlon, duathlon, aquathlon, or aquacycle. *ANY* event of this type can count - there is no predetermined “club champs” events list. But, their result needs to be submitted below.

5. To keep things fair and make this interesting throughout the year, you need to submit your results within a week from the date of your race.

6. BONUS POINTS: To promote club members racing alongside one another, an extra 5 points will be given for participation in each event with at least three BCTTT members in it. Maximum amount of bonus points awarded is 15.
Note: These don’t have to be your highest scoring races, but results for these need to be submitted by 3+ BCTTT members.

7. Season starts on 1 Jan and ends on 31 Dec 2015

8. Kevy doesn’t need to swim (see how good I am?), but DOES need to do at least three duathlons (i.e. qualifying “multisport events”) if he wants to play. Other exceptions possible at SGM’s discretion (hoping there will be none).

9. You *don’t* have to be a paid-up club member to take part (i.e. all forum colours welcome).

10. Results sheet can be viewed at any time here: http://goo.gl/DDwSgZ (empty file for now, obviously). I will *do my best* to update as results flow in - at least once a month.

Comments? (note - I’ll delete all comments at the end of the year to make space for event result submissions)

I think this is a great idea but have an issue with bonus points. In the 4 years I have been on the club I have raced with the BCTTT massive twice. The issue is that this is very bias towards anywhere south of Watford where the critical mass is. I think for the last 2 years I am the only Midlands to do a tri other than the relays. Having a family precludes from entering all the big event that people from the south travel north to do and family stops me going to deepest south or aboard to race.

Also if you look at some areas there aren't 3 members within 100 miles of each other so will never get the chance of any points. Just think we need to consider the whole club mass

I may be bring a bit critical and I apologies but for me the whole point about burnt in this club was it being global which by that very nature makes meeting up hard/to impossible
Thinks to much about it all

Whilst I agree as I think that's a fair point, maybe the flipside is that it encourages getting nearby people into the club or forum to help swell the ranks as well as giving the individual more opportunity to score bonus points.

Case in point has been your part in recruiting Daz this season, and you raced with him at Foremark.

^^^ What he said, Will. :-)

The idea is that people make the effort to get together. Plus I've consciously set a limit to the bonus points one can get, which is 5% of maximum point score (assuming you win your three best events, you'll get 300 points, + Max 15 if you also raced 3 races as a BCTTT group), so hopefully it won't be that much of an impact on final results. Although frankly I wouldn't mind if it was.

Good work SGMkqwerty.

A great idea.

Lets not get too bogged down in the detail people.

Journey / destination and all that.

LOL. Exactly. Or duathlons. Or aquabikes. Or something!

BTW let me know what events you're planning to do next year folks, and I'll put them up on the list. May trigger other people to sign up to them too, bonus points and all that.... ;-)

Duathlons?!!!!! Go and wash your mouth out with soap & water.... as if!!!
And, while I like the concept, I simply couldn't do an aquabike because of the name (always makes me think of some sort of glorified pedalo device). I guess there's no scope in this for bikeathons then?
