Aero front light

Aero front light

Postby CCS » 15 Jun 2015 11:11

Anyone got any recommendations for a good front light for racing?
Am all sorted with very non-aero options for getting home after evening 10s etc - but the more I worry about things, the more I think I would like something flashing on the front when I race.
Doesn't need to be particularly bright - just enough to catch the eye of drivers waiting to pull out into me from junctions etc..... preferably USB chargeable.... needs to have some sort of pretty stretchy rubber fitting to go round fairly chunky base bars (or some clever fitting option).
Any suggestions?

where do you think it will go on the bike when you are tucked up in the aero position? i'm wondering how visible a base-bar mounted light will be if you are positioned in front of it.

I've seen a couple of decent looking options on the LFGSS TT section.

IIRC someone mounted one of those small leyzene front lights inside one of their extensions which was a pretty good solution, although obviously not workable with gears. Someone else found a relatively slim light and mounted it to the stack of spacers under their extensions which kept the light pretty well out of the wind.

Hmm... not a lot of space on the bars, but I'd find something relatively slim (maybe something like this with a low frontal area*) and mount it under the base bar on the RHS, as close to the stem as possible. That way it should be visible and the speedfill pipe and other bits will already be ruining the air flow around there...

*incidentally this is the same as the rear light i use on my super aero custom light mod :-)

exposure trace front light, but using a rear light mount and a couple of third-party long bungees. i've got a tracer on my tt bike and this works ok on an aero shape (although i do have it fixed at the seat post clamp to be on the safe side).

The Lezyne Zecto has a rubber strap and is rather bright. You could mount it to your head tube? I have one on the front and the equivalent red one on the back my helmet as they don't fit to aero seat posts
