Evolution of a position

Evolution of a position

Edit: Updated with earlier pics.

First fit this year was mid Feb. Raced that weekend:

Race in mid April, same position (can't direct link to this pic, will need to faff with hosting): https://www.flickr.com/photos/123156326 ... 820180514/

Same position again at Stone Wheelers 25 in May.

Mid season bike fit in late June, which lead to this position (pic from Stone Wheelers 25 in Sept).

Last photo includes me holding a position based on tips from Adam Topham's book.

Edit: ffwd almost 2 years...

Very interesting!
Definitely planning to take a trip up to Bridgtown for some tinkering prior to Fluffy retiring to the turbo for the winter.

You really have come a long way this season. Do you have any pics from last year to add to the compare & contrast?

Trying to work out what has changed

Saddle forward?

Is the stack height any lower?

I've got a pic or 2 from earlier this year. I'll update the original post when I've got decent wifi (currently on the train). Not sure about pics from last year, didn't do any opens on the TT bike on it so don't think there were any photographers about. There's also a few positional tips that I picked up from Adam Topham's book, as recommended before. Probably not very fair for me to just dump them on the forum, but I'll see if I can write something up. It's worth getting the book though.

Saddle forward and down, stack height down, wedges in shoe and between cleat and shoe.

IIRC, I went a minute faster on the same course (better conditions though) only a few weeks apart with the bike fit that produced the 2nd position in between.

Power the same? Or down?

You have consistently reported finding it hard to get the power you expect... Or that's the impression I get.

Updated first post with a couple more pics.

It's only really the last few weeks that I've not been able to hold the power that I have before. Combination of general fatigue, training fatigue, and then adding a knee knock into it.

Looking at pre and post fit race powers, power's not down, but then it's not really up either. Although Golden Cheetah shows that my aerobic power trend is going up, I've not really been able to replicate that in a race. Anaerobic power's going down, but I'm not sure how much of a bearing that has on it.

Certainly most of the gains this year appear to have been from position and equipment. But I think I've only properly been 'training' since about June/July, so will see what the winter training and early races next year show.

More detailed analysis to come soon - watch this space.

So you had a bike fit in Feb that led to the first position and then a second fit in June that led to the later setup?

What changed between the two fitting sessions to give such different positions? Better flexibility, different brief, different fitter?
