You thinking about a world record for number of boats scuppered by one person?

The half distance definitely sounds like an option to me. I'm not sure about the full, the swim is a long way. Based on swimming a mile in about half an hour (a nice leisurely pace, and eminently holdable) it would take 3.5 hours to swim. Training for that would be an absolute bugger. Hopefully they'd let you do a bit of backstroke just to even it out. The rest of it seems perfectly reasonable.

hmmmm.....

And if you were equally good in all three disciplines, you'd run a 3.5 hr marathon!

Scaling up directly from my recent HIM times.....

Swim: 04:28:20
Bike: 02:58:25
Run: 03:30:00

One man's ISO- is another persons ... (whatever is the opposite prefix to iso-)

Which is intriguing, as, position-wise, the run was my best leg.

Basically, using the athlete hour record was the wrong thing to do, as aero road can be quicker than track.

Bugger shouldn't have read this as apart from Poland I'm not meant to be planning anything, but the half would be tempting. I'm crap at swimming but I wanted to work on it over the winter. It might actually scare me into bothering to swim!

Hmmm, that one appeals to me, so it's pencilled into my 2015 diary. An endurance swim would force a proper focus on swimming rather than a just-get-through attitude.

Had an email yesterday to say it's now the 18th rather than the 11th, or the other way round. Anyway, it's a week earlier or later than the original date, which may or may not have been the 11th or 18th... :ugeek:

I just love how your perspective has evolved here.

When I talk to muggles, they are completely amazed at the idea of going as far as 1 mile in a swim!

An endurance swim is anything longer than a length. :D

For most swimmers, an iron distance swim is endurance... (obviously, now there is a 10km olympic swim, that may be changing a bit).

Everyone's view of endurance changes as your ability in the sport changes. Stepping out of your comfort zone and pushing yourself either further or faster is when you often see the greatest gains.
