Bike computer

Postby 45Cdo » 13 Jan 2010 10:18

Question – Does anyone use a bike computer whilst racing? To pace for speed and distance etc.

Cheers for any replies,

Dean

i have a bike comp and look at it while i'm racing, although i'm not sure what i benefit from doing so! i mainly use it to check speed (and to make me push harder if needed) and distance so i know how much more i have to do. distance check cah be quite handy if you don't know the course very well and want to have a rough idea of when t2 might be coming up for dropping a gear, taking a gel, that sort of thing.

I have a Garmin 305 which I use for HR and a seperate bike specific computer I used for cadence and current speed, but I have just got the cadence sensor for the 305. I will put my old computer back on which does do cadence but is more reliable.

So in answer Yes, I like to analsyse my races and 305 gives some great feedback after, but with the HR it give me a good indication of immediate feedback...

Yep, Cateye Strada.... frankly brilliant and faultless. About £40 and just so happens to have won a group test in this months 220 that dropped through the door this morning.

I'd hate cycling without it now.

Same as Ben. Cat eye strada.

Its top notch and well worth the £35 I paid for it!!! haha Ben

I've now got my Garmin 305 which I got from Amazon which I've still to work out how to use.

I like to analyse training/ races as well but it generally involves me looking at the numbers and wondering what the hell is going on!!

Again a Cateye wireless, which is great.
In a race it's useful for keeping an eye on speed and cadence, plus knowing how far you've got left.

I currently have a crappy Halfords bike computer that doesn't give me the cadence readings I would like.

I'm just wondering, should I shell out for a Garmin cadence sensor that I can use with my Forerunner (and upload together with the HR readings etc. or go for the Cateye Strada (probably the Double Wireless as that would include cadence as well)?

I use a Knogg wireless computer fixed on my stem, so I can read at any time, and shows distance, speed and average speed. And then I also wear my Garmin 310XT which also gives cadence which I can glance at as required. I find it useful having the two, because then I don't have to remove the 310XT from my wrist and fix it to the bike in T1, and vice versa in T2.
