Running today

Postby Bendy Ben » 07 Jan 2010 23:20

I love the snow - I love driving in it but I hate running in it so I thought I'd go to the gym and bang out a 10km run on the new fandangled running machines.... I got my kit bag packed, made up the drink, said goodbye to the WAT and kids and jogged there 0.5 miles away and guess what. It's closed. Lack of staff!!!

I don't need staff to run!!

So home again, and I'm now enjoying my second glass of red wine.

Oh well, I'm on nights tomorrow ( all weekend) ... GULP, wish me luck

i ran yesterday, 3.35mi each way to work after parking up about 3/4 of the way to the office. fabulous running in the snow on the way to work, i wish i'd photographed the quiet country lane i was running down because it was stunning - totally untouched and just my footprints leading back.

way home was a bit rubbish - touch icy, all the snow roughed up and a bit less grip. if it's not too bad i might run tomorrow lunchtime down the canal tow-path.

hope the nights aren't too cold, ben, it's alleging -8 here tonight. our house is going to be cooooooooold.

it's - 4 here now at 2237hrs.

I have a feeling it's gonna be a nightmare. ust got to get from Epsom to Battersea somehow!! ( 20 miles)

Biking is out. Running - too much kit and I can't run 20 miles in snow - about 5 yes not 20, so 'll either try to drive and abandon it if I have to or just walk! :o

i dont know if i'm lucky or unlucky...the snow is deep here but i've had the worst cold i've had in years and its still hanging on. its frustrating cause its my first week of training..(i have a very good friend who used to be a pro boxer, he now at 34 needs a heart transplant as his heart is enlarged due to training with a virus) but i wont train with a cold. i dont know what it would be like running in this. i have a treadmill and a turbo so i could do some...just not been able to

I hate treadmills with a passion so I'm venturing out tomorrow to find a snowing hill for some reps

As long as chocolate is involved I can do anything

i went out at lunchtime, i don't know how cold it was out though.

really good compacted snow on the tow-path, not too slippy. 3mi, nice and steady, sun out, lovely!

my turbo trainer has become my best buddy at the moment - roads/pavements are icy and I'm incredibly injury prone so not going there (running or cycling), my WAT's managed to skid the car into the kerb quite hard so I need to get the car checked before I venture out in it again (which means any drive to the pool is out of the question) and even if I could venture out, the swimming club have advised that their sessions have been cancelled because the leisure centres' parking aeras are covered in ice

problem is, not sure how transferable fitness is following repeated turbo trainer workouts once I've got my first half-marathon in 7.5 weeks (bearing in mind the farthest I've ever run is 10k - which I did on the 27th of December - and the hilly course was unpleasant) and i was ill/injured/lazy from 1st November to christmas eve (went for a run xmas morning though!)
