where do you swim??

Postby andyb99 » 18 Jan 2010 22:25

I recently went back to the gym at a cost of £45 a month just to use their pool. I tried 2 of the local pools round here but they were just horrendous no matter what time i went.....One is the pool that time forgot...a nice pool but very old facilities and full of people that have been using them since they were new. also quite narrow so get six people in and you were dodging eac other...i also tried the local leisure centre....never again...varooka fest and full of the worst type of people.

Down side of the gym besides the cost is its only an 18.5 mtr pool...so its character building right?? good thing is its incredibly quiet..and i usually have it all to myself.

I'm still a student for another 6 weeks, so the University pool, will probably still swim there after as only £180 per year Gym, Pool and sports centre membership. Some universities offer discounted rates to local residents, if there is a Uni pool gym nearby why not see if they do something similar? Be prepared to 'get chicked' in the pool a lot more often though :(

Thursday: The Stoke Mandeville Paralympic Facility, Stoke Mandeville (Buckinghamshire), Empty 25m, a bit warm. Free while staying in the Olympic Lodge (£44 per night)
Sunday: Bingley Municipal Pool, Bingley, Yorkshire, Warm (30degs), crowded, 23m (25yds). £3:40 a pop)
Monday: Central YMCA Club pool, London - nice and Cool (24 degs) and 25m. Very dark though. Not that crowded (£4 pool + gym for duration of stay in St Giles Hotel. I'll go again in the morning, making it £2 a pop).

Where ever I lay my goggles case, that's my pool.

i swim in a local pool that is geared toward swimming, not titting about. keeping the water nearer racing temperature tends to reduce the chav count - sitting about chatting isn't fun when you're getting cold.

I've tried there. It wasn't very good.

It will be a hotel spa pool on Thursday... and probably next week.. i.e. a time to practise some drills rather than racing up and down (it will be warm and small).

I stupidly have 2 gym memberships, one through work at a decent discounted rate. I use that for swimming at Lunch, 25M pool 5 lanes for swimming include the swim for life lane, where you are allowed to use the tous (pull, floats, fins etc..). this is normally ok, a tad warm for my liking and pretty much unusuable out side of term time (bloody kids) - in Maidenhead - as features in CH book :D

My local pool in Bracknell is much better, there is a trianing pool and competition pool, training pool temp is 28-30 and competiton poo,l is 25-27 (normally), they have plently of adult only sessions in the evening, and early morning swims start at 6.30am, but 3 mornings they have the swimming club which uses the competition pool..

my question si why to so mnay old people use the pool first thing in the morning? what can't they wait until after 9am when most people are at work!!!
How hard can it be?? and what could possibly go wrong?????
