i looked at some of the drinkwater events for the race with my bro, they have a pool swim race in tadcaster which would have been ideal if it wasn't £40! similar events in the south would be £29-33 or so.

same story at freebird events, driffield was on my radar as well but it's £40 for the sprint. this may be an expensive sport but at a certain point races are taking the pee - there is a recession on and all that ;)

Ris,the Tadcaster race used to be really good, well organised apart from the briefing being held at the start and if you we starting in the last wave would mean hanging around for a couple of hours. It did get so popular in 2004 that they were going to have a draw for competitors.
The Driffield one is ok but the marshals and marshalling could have been better, they did misdirect a couple of runners on the final lap,so it wold be wise to memorise the course.
But forty notes seem to be the going rate, not cheap but neithers carbon.

it might be the going rate up there but it certainly wasn't down here (last year i paid £29max for a sprint, there were a lot of local pool races for £33), and chaserace is similar in the midlands (£35 for pool events).

simple reality is that for close to the same money i can do olympic distance races (bath was £42 last year, and was accessing some of the best sporting centre in the uk). even ripon oly is only £45 as is often voted one of the better events.

i know that it is an expensive hobby but i do think that some organisers are being a bit cheeky.

+1 for Winchester. Highly likely to be my first tri of the year... just 10k runs up until that point.
