Merry Christmas

...to the BCTTT massive!

First race in two weeks, bit of extra poundage to lose!

Yearly running stats for me:

2016 2445k
2017 2380k
2018 2300k

In terms of times 2016 and 2018 were the best years, whilst training volumes similar, the spread through the year was very different. 2018 had some cracking results (despite the ravages of age :D ) and the most positive aspect has been the lack of injury. I have not kept the volume up in Nov/Dec but it has still been reasonable, leaving things well set up for next year.

So after vast analysis (looking at a few charts) the plan for this year is for a pb at every race distance:
5k 19.39 (2016)
10k 41.23 (2016 during hm)
10miles 1.06.52 (2016 during a hm)
Hm 1.28.52 (2016)
20mile 2.34.00 (2018)
Marathon 3.50 (2018)

Aim is a higher Ave weekly volume, although this is unlikely to be vastly higher, around 2800k for the year. Critical difference will be a weekly long run of 2hrs+ which I have never done in previous training. Getting weight down a bit 2/3 kgs should do it. Where possible more speed work as that has been lacking this year and I think was the difference between 2016 and 2018.

Oh, the other goal is gfa of 3.19.59 :D

Easy pbs should be the marathon and the 20 miler as they are way off forecast pace. The 10k and 10mile should be next. The 5k and hm will be the toughest.

Let’s see :D 8-)

Stay well everyone.

A Merry Christmas to you to Jimba

A nice set of goals for the year, just out of curiosity, do the pbs have to be set in a race or is it purely Garmin times ?

I must admit that I think of goals and end up further away from the finish line than when I started, but, if there has to be one it is to get as close to my half Ironman on as possible (5:15, caveat I think the course was short), so, I have chosen a race, and course suitable to me, entered, and thinking I would have a great race, it has just bee not announced that the race will be the European 70.3 championship race for 2019
Proud to be at the back of the pack. So in 2019 there will be something Rotten in the state of Denmark, and it is in Elsinore too

My goal is to get off my fat arse and do something

Jimba, will your 10K be a stand-alone race or a PB attained during a longer race?

Jonathon.e, what could possibly go wrong with the GJATC amongst a field of elite athletes...?

Hmmm...

2016 138k
2017 35k
2018 29k

However
2015 717k (biggest total ever!)

5k: 19:57 (2010) (20:00 2015)
10k: 41:08 (2008)? 41:11 (2010)
10 miles: 1.11.xx (2010)
HM: 1.33.01 (2015)
Marathon ( 3.23.xx) 2015 ( but short course)

I didn't do a 10k in 2015... but I was probably fastest then, when getting ready for the marathon attempt.

Anyway, if there is a point to this, you should do sub 3:20 fairly easily. You don't need more volume, but more speed!

The highlight of the year was the last park run I did (Christmas Day), when I didn't actually break at all. Which is nice. Still recovering a bit though.

Hopefully I can get back to it in 2019.

Jon, any of my garmin times will do! However, even on a hard training session I don’t get up to race pace, 95% of my training is done on grassy tracks, the other 5 is on the road but where I live is not flat so realistically any garmin will do but pbs are always in races - race shoes, surface, topology, adrenaline, competition, taper.

Kevy, obviously the pb should be done on the distance you are running if it has been paced right, reality is I don’t do many standalone 10ks so getting training right, taper right and pacing right on the odd race is hard. My 10k race next week is the only one on my race calendar and it’s hilly, so I suspect best shot of a pb will be during a 10miler.

Jon - enjoy the race and training

Kevy - you have done it before, you can do it again, pick an easy goal for April, train for that and go from there.

Jack - here’s to an unbroken year.

Enjoy it everyone.
