Does anyone use tubeless tyres ?

And if so, any downside to using them ?

Thinking of going tubeless on the mtb ( apparently, like garlic bread, it's the future, and possibly the only way I could ride up those confounded cobbled hills of Jack's ),
Just enquiringly, I doubt the reduction in rolling mass would bother me, so we can discount that.

The rims are tubeless ready, so it's just a case of new valves and the sealant.

Embarrassingly I have to confess having had them on my deep section race wheels. I had a spare but never learnt to use it and fortunately never had to.

The wheels were stolen so it is for me now something of a moot point, but personally I didn’t find them any faster than normal tyres. The fact that I didn’t have to change one due to a puncture could be seen as proof they are better, or proof I never did that many miles on the race bike ;)

Anyway, I know nothing of bikes, I am a runner

I've got some wheels that are 'tubeless ready' but tbh I can't remember which ones they are.

The thing that has put me off is that I like to do stuff myself and to fit tubeless tyres will require buying a new pump that can do a high pressure 'dump' to pop them onto the rims.

I can't be arsed.

If I get worried about the weight saved I'll take one less mouthful of drink, or try a bit harder on the toilet before I go out.

Ok,
So I converted to tubeless on the MTB, took about 45 mins to do both. Took the rim tape out, put in Gorilla tape to seal the holes, put rim tape back in to put some pressure on the gorilla tape, new valve inserted. 120ml of Stans no tube sealant. Tyre back on.

Used the track pump, enough pressure to push the tyre into the beads, pumped up, seem to be holding the pressure.

Just see if I get on with them.
