Thanks Jack, looks I can keep plodding round in training then

I was second on the WAVA, beaten by a lady in the VW70-74 category!

No, sadly, but I don't have a regular commute, so dog walk has become dog run. :D

Week 9 45.1k in 4hrs 15mins. Ave speed 10.6kph, Ave hr 126 Ave cad 94

Higher speed, is down to the park run on Saturday followed on Sunday by 17k at a faster pace than usual, around 5.15pk.

Just not getting time to get out and looks like the same this week, so will try and at least get something done everyday and worry about the mileage in 2017!

2377k for this year. I don't think I am going to be able to sneak over the 2500 target after two low volume weeks on the bounce. Never mind, targets aren't meant to be easy!

Great result from the Parkrun. If you are utilising HR as a base for running pace/exertion, did you use the bog standard 220-age for max HR and zone percentages, or do it more scientifically? Just interested.

I think it would be fair to say I take a passing interest only. I pretty much run on feel and check the zones when back. I haven't calculated them, I have just relied on garmin to, and they are not that great. Got the garmin a couple of weeks before the hm in october and it showed I was in zone 5 for 99% of time at Ave hr of 166 (I think) with max of 171, at the park run max was 177 Ave 168 and only 75% in zone 4 and none zone5!
I do some runs when none even gets into zone 1.

Thank you, just curious, I know HR is supposedly old hat and power is the new black etc.I was just curious, as HR zones calculated by Garmin are notoriously ambiguous. But I am a total advocate of running slowly, as it lessens The chance of injury for me and means I can go further more often, but speed creates a problem.

Dear Sir,

Thank you for you interest in slow running., when I started running, I just went out, and ran, chose a route and enjoyed it. Over the years it became more competitive and I raced to train, injury followed and a huge amount of out of competition time resulted. I took racing out of the equation this year, did a Conconni test to get my Lactate threshold HR, the other month, and now just plod around at 9:30 to 10 min miles, without getting injured. With this philosophy I hope to lose some of the timber, helping to reduce the pressure on my knee/ankle and get round to racing agin. Where as before I would go for a five mile run at 8:30 pace and be in pain for the next few days, I can do 10 miles at 10 min a mile pace and just creak with old age the next day and still be able to bike/swim the next day.
The hardest part was to run at such a slow pace and not be competitive, which is good mental training anyway.

I hope this is of some help.

Yours faithfully etc etc etc.
;)

Choices were
Run and get injured or don't run and get fat.
Now run slow or don't run

Rock-hard place
