50-day fat loss challenge

Postby Jack Hughes » 28 Feb 2014 21:39

We tend to have food themed holidays - not about eating but discovering.

A trip to Malta involved going round as many out of the way bakeries as possible. As Malta is famed for its bread and baked goods.

I am sure I have some photos somewhere of the bread delivery man doing his rounds in Valetta, with the housewives in the apartments lowering down a basket from the fifth floor on a rope. The basket coming down with money in it, then going back up laden with bread.

Evocative and distinctive. :)

Brilliant. Yes Malta is good at baking. Which may be partly to blame for the shocking obesity levels. And of course it's brilliant for me and my low/no carbs... Not!

Oh well, I'll just have to have some fish and seafood instead!

56.4
12 days on holiday. Hardly any training. Diet about 50:50 at best. (Restaurant 5 times. Coffee shops all the time) Weight loss 1 and a bit kg. Don't you just hate me?

I'm not really sure how to explain it other than:
-my hormones are working well (insulin response is normal again for a start),
- my metabolism is faster than it used to be, and perhaps also
- genes/luck (I've always been of slim build, maybe I'm just getting back to my norm)

Anyhow. Still wondering what to do next. I'm still not at all interested in Tri. I'm not inspired by any of Swim/bike/run. I've already decided to bail on Windsor and would love to bail on France too. Except it's all BAT-approved.

On the other hand I really do want a six-pack...

On the other other hand, I like the idea of being a triathlete. And I do like competition... I know that when the season kicks off i'll be wishing I was able to do a race.

What to do? This dilemma doesn't ever go away!

You are probably pretty active, which helps. A lot.

What isn't appealing? The time, discipline and commitment required to train ?

Sounds like the diet/training is going well!
Will be sorry not to see you at Windsor - but if the mojo isn't there, then it would probably be a bit of a slog.
If you want to do some racing, why not do a few local sprints (Thames Turbo, Thorpe, Thorpe Park) - all can be entered reasonably last minute (or could last year anyway), and might give you the fun of a bit of competition without having to kill yourself on the training.

The time required to train in order to even complete an OD. Let alone be OK at it. I know from the time I did Hever that four hours is pathetic and not nearly enough. I don't have a base to rely on. I'm not particularly good at any of the disciplines. It requires hard work on all fronts.

Whilst 4-times a week at weights allows me to make proper progress...

I may start a bit of cycling in April. If only to be able to enjoy a bit of the social aspect and perhaps France. If I can be bothered to go. Which atm is a question mark - the only positive is that it is a week away from the kids! But that's also the main problem as child care is a big unknown at the moment...

Yes a possibility especially for later in the season...

Much as I thought. And completely understandable.

It would be good to keep your hand in. Maybe just running for a bit? Social cycling is great too.
