The challenge: Run 5k (at least) every day in May. That's 31 consecutive runs. Simple?
I currently managed about 4 per month.
Analysis of my training log over the last 4 years shows that if I run 9 or more in a month, run terminating injury follows.
The most I have ever run is 11 times in a month. Distance and intensity doesn't really seem to factor. Just the number.
This isn't about fitness, but about the technical management of getting my body round without breaking down. I suspect it is possible if I go slowly enough (despite what the numbers say about intensity, I think I never really run slowly enough to get through). Time management is also an issue, especially with working days stretching from 6am to 9pm quite often.
The rough strategy is to try to run about 5:30 - 6:00/km pace for the first week. 28+ mins for each 5k.
But really I want to negative split the month, getting the average time up. Not sure what the progression would be, 28, 26, 25, 24 might around the mark.
The idea is to do a park run every week at a slightly higher instensity. (e.g 25, 24, 23, 22).
As the 31st of May is a Friday, I am hoping to get to the 1st of June, and then have a go for it run, and try to set a year's best time. Currently 22:10 I think is the time to beat.
