Makes me feel lazy just thinking about those distances!

Bit of a late update on my training. Cracked a 205 miler on Saturday which I felt surprisingly good for for the first 150 miles. It's amazing how quickly you build up some tolerance on the bike. When I first got back I bonked badly on an 80 miler which if I'm honest left me with some serious doubts about my ability to complete a 350 mile ride.

Now however I think it's 'doable'. Bedfordshire isn't really hilly so I've been doing 50 mile laps with a couple of hills in amongst it. The 15%-er up Sundon Hill really takes it out of me an makes me wonder how I managed Hardknott and Wrynose last year but apart from I can feel the progress I'm making.

I've been doing about 20-30 minute breaks between the laps as I think it's a marathon not a sprint and I want to enjoy as much of the ride as possible. Here's a link to the ride

Off to work for a couple of weeks now so I'm praying there's a bike on ship or I'm going to be doing squats, lunges and stepups for 12hrs at a time

Had probably my worst ever ship as part of this stint away. Chinese death ship has never been a more apt description.

Fortunately I've jumped on a much better ship now which gets me home just in time for the RMRIDE350. No sign of a decent spin bike though so I'm still reduced to squats and lunges to keep the legs ready. The food is a lot better so hopefully I can put back on some of the weight I lost on the last one.

Damn you south west monsoon season! How am I meant to do any training when you keep trying to capsize the ship!

The swell has finally calmed down where I am so I've been able to start cracking the phys again. I'm supposed to be 'tapering' whatever that is, but I've been ropes into doing team circuits for some fun and games. Cue serious one upmanship as a bunch of hairy @rse former bootnecks do their best not to be seen as loafing by the others.
I've got the same again today so if nothing else I've relearned how to suffer:
Tricep ring dips
Shuttle runs
Burpee pullups
Bicep curl to shoulder press
Hanging leg raises
Squats
Incline pullups (Australian pullups)
Burpees
5 round with 1/2 times through per round. All exercises for time.

So much for a relaxed session again today. This time it was a variation of 'a fight gone bad' circuit - 5 exercises 1 rest @ 1 minute 5 times through for 30 minutes.
Ring abs (eg leg raises)
Incline pullups on rings
Burpees (I hate them)
Shoulder press
Pistols
Rest blessed rest
This circuit has definitely earned its name, I felt ready to spew a few times during it and combined with the heat I was well and truly done when that final buzzer went. As much as I live to hate these circuits I can feel my strength returning after the extended period if just cycling.
Tomorrow's final session before I get off and head home is a Chipper circuit. One of the team loves his crossfit so I'm anticipating going deep into my pain cave in search of my power animal.

Interesting Chipper today, and by interesting I mean overwhelming desire to vomit throughout.

50 burpees (still hate them)
30 box jumps
30 pullups
120m walking lunges approx.
50 ring dips
25 clean press w/hydrobag (awkward)
100 double unders
75 pressups
100 squats
10 ring muscle ups

Each exercise had to be completed before you could move on to the next. The aim was to complete the whole chipper in under an hour. I felt ready to vomit for a good proportion of this session, not a feeling I've forced on myself recently. This is what happens when I end up on a team of crossfit ninjas.

My next phys session is going to be much longer and hopefully a lot less vomit inducing. The nerves are definitely building now, not being on the bike for 3-4 weeks isn't helping either.

Not been on for a while. Apart from the Relays I've hardly done any phys lately. I ended up missing the RMRIDE350 because work guilt tripped me into doing another transit (if I dont do it we'll lose the contract etc) and I've had other life altering stuff in the pipeline so Wasdale got sidelined til next year. It's been a long, hard road and I don't want to jinx it but I think things are looking up
