Seasonal Greetings, I hope that the past few days have brought a much needed respite, a few moments of indulgence and some quality time with your loved ones.
Thankyou kindly to the readers that nominated me for the New Years Honours, I am humbled and often think I am actually standing in the shadow of giants, when I think of my achievements, compared to others in the club, thankyou. As I look back at the year, and contrast it to others, I think I am content with the achievements that have come my way, finishing all the races I have started, and entered, admittedly the longest was an OD, so no real huge achievement there.
But what have been my standout moments this year, many and varied, I suppose. A top ten finish in a triathlon and a couple of time trials. Achieving a decent bike split for the bike section of the OD Tri, the rest of the race was shall we say bland. Meeting one of my personal favourite triathletes at Rother Valley, they had time to talk with us and it made my year.
Outside my own little sphere of existence, the years standout moments, in no particular order.
Nicola Adams winning boxing Gold, and when that career ends I am sure one in motivational speaking will beckon.
Watching Michael Johnson totally lost for words when, on the late evening Olympic catch up show with Gabby Logan, Alan Wells, said, and it was a fact, " That he was the last white man to win an Olympic Sprint track Gold". Priceless.
If there was a standout moment in the TdF that made me smile, it was watching Jens Voight, trying to make a break on the Champs Elysse, in the closing moments of the final stage; come on legs.
I hope the coming year brings you all good fortune, as we get older, injury is ,inevitable, the body does break from time to time, like a classic car, constant maintenance is needed otherwise a complete overhaul may be required, train smart, and race easy, triathlon is about pace not speed, and try not to look for solutions to problems that are not really there.
Enjoy the New Year festivities.I hope the forthcoming season brings good fortune and enjoyment.
